1. Check your thermostat.

The problem of cold air not blowing from a central A/C system can sometimes be a simple thermostat setting. Confirm that your thermostat is working; it might need new batteries or have a wiring issue. If it is on, make sure the system is set to the “air conditioning” or “cool” position or turned to “fan.” Also, confirm that the thermostat is at least five degrees below room temperature.

2. Look at your breakers or fuses.

If adjusting the thermostat doesn’t work, there could be a power supply problem. Go to your home’s electrical panel or fuse box. Make sure the circuit feeding power to your central A/C isn’t tripped or blown.

3. Go to your system’s power switch.

Now that you know the system’s breaker or fuse is okay, look at the disconnect switch in the box next to your A/C system’s outdoor condenser. Is it set to on?

4. Check obstructions to your system’s airflow.

If all your central A/C equipment seems to be working, but you still aren’t getting cool air in your rooms, the issue could be some form of obstruction to your airflow.
